The Incompatibility of Identity Politics with American Principles

A Quote Excerpt from The Presidents Advisory 1776 Commission

“Identity politics divide Americans by placing them perpetually in conflict with each other. This extreme
ideology assaults and undermines the American principle of equality in several key ways.

First, identity politics attacks American self-government. Through the separation of powers and the system
of checks and balances, American constitutionalism prevents any one group from having complete control of the government. In order to form a majority, the various groups that comprise the nation must resolve their disagreements in light of shared principles and come to a deliberative consensus over how best to govern. In the American system, public policy is decided by prudential compromise among different interest groups for the sake of the common good.

Identity politics, on the other hand, sees politics as the realm of permanent conflict and struggle among
racial, gender, and other groups, and no compromise between different groups is possible. Rational deliberation and compromise only preserve the oppressive status quo. Instead, identity politics relies on humiliation, intimidation, and coercion. American self-government, where all citizens are equal before the law, is supplanted by a system where certain people use their group identity to get what they want.

Second, by dividing Americans into oppressed and oppressor groups, activists of identity politics propose to
punish some citizens – many times for wrongs their ancestors allegedly committed – while rewarding others. Members of oppressed groups must ascend, and members of oppressor groups must descend. This new system denies that human beings are endowed with the same rights, and creates new hierarchies with destructive assumptions and practices.

On the one hand, members of oppressed groups are told to abandon their shared civic identity as Americans and think of themselves in terms of their sexual or racial status. The consequence is that they should no longer see themselves as agents responsible for their own actions but as victims controlled by impersonal forces. In a word, they must reject, not affirm, the Declaration’s understanding of self-government according to the consent of the governed. If members of oppressed groups want to become free, they must rely upon a regime of rewards and privileges
assigned according to group identity.

On the other hand, members of oppressor groups merit public humiliation at the hands of others. Diversity
training programs, for example, force members of “oppressor” groups to confess before their co-workers how they contribute to racism. Educational programs based on identity politics often use a person’s race to degrade or ostracize them.

These degradations of individuals on the basis of race expose the lie that identity politics promotes the equal protection of rights. Advocates of identity politics argue that all hate speech should be banned but then define hate speech as only applying to protected identity groups who are in turn free to say whatever they want about their purported oppressors. This leads to a “cancel culture” that punishes those who violate the terms of identity politics.”

A Free People Must Have a Knowledge of the Principles & Practices of Liberty

A Quote from The Presidents Advisory 1776 Commission

“Among the virtues to be cultivated in the American republic, the founders knew that a free people must have a knowledge of the principles and practices of liberty, and an appreciation of their origins and challenges.

While this country has its imperfections, just like any other country, in the annals of history the United States has achieved the greatest degree of personal freedom, security, and prosperity for the greatest proportion of its own people and for others around the world. These results are the good fruit of the ideas the founding generation expressed as true for all people at all times and places.

An authentic civics education will help rebuild our common bonds, our mutual friendship, and our civic devotion. But we cannot love what we do not know.

This is why civics education, education relating to the citizen, must begin with knowledge, which is, as George Washington reminds us, “the surest basis of public happiness.””

‘A Scholarship of Freedom’

A Quote from The Presidents Advisory 1776 Commission

“Universities in the United States are often today hotbeds of anti-Americanism, libel, and censorship that combine to generate in students and in the broader culture at the very least disdain and at worst outright hatred for this country.

The Founders insisted that universities should be at the core of preserving American republicanism by instructing students and future leaders of its true basis and instilling in them not just an understanding but a reverence for its principles and core documents. Today, our higher education system does almost the precise opposite. Colleges peddle resentment and contempt for American principles and history alike, in the process weakening attachment to our shared heritage.

In order to build up a healthy, united citizenry, scholars, students, and all Americans must reject false and fashionable ideologies that obscure facts, ignore historical context, and tell America’s story solely as one of oppression and victim-hood rather than one of imperfection but also unprecedented achievement toward freedom, happiness, and fairness for all. Historical revisionism that tramples honest scholarship and historical truth, shames Americans by highlighting only the sins of their ancestors, and teaches claims of systemic racism that can only be eliminated by more discrimination, is an ideology intended to manipulate opinions more than educate minds.

Deliberately destructive scholarship shatters the civic bonds that unite all Americans. It silences the discourse essential to a free society by breeding division, distrust, and hatred among citizens. And it is the intellectual force behind so much of the violence in our cities, suppression of free speech in our universities, and defamation of our treasured national statues and symbols.

To restore our society, academics must return to their vocation of relentlessly pursuing the truth and engaging in honest scholarship that seeks to understand the world and America’s place in it.

We Want a Righteous Invasion of Truth

‘R.I.O.T.’ Lyrics (2007)
Written by: Carmelo ‘Carman’ Domenic Licciardello & Tommy L. Sims

“Webster’s dictionary say a riot is like an unrestrained
Uproar in a public place, turbulent right in your face
With the facts we’re gonna spread God’s Word
And attack every lie you’ve heard

Like the doctrines of men that are still fallen prey
To the silvery sword of God’s Word today
It’s true, we look to Heaven and our mansions in the sky
And it’s true we’ve got the gaze of Eternity in our eyes

But before this Church is raptured
There’s no way we’re gonna leave here quiet
We want a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

Jesus, we’re callin’ on Your name
Jesus, we’re gonna see a change
Jesus, we’re taking on Goliath
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

Righteous, to conform to the Bible
Invasion an armed attack
Of truth, the real state of affairs
Like a church on the move that will not double back

From the fight, ’cause we’re salt and light
And we thrive on Jesus, the theme of our lives
And here’s the spin
Love nothin’ but God, hate nothin’ but sin

It’s true, now’s the time to win nations for the Lord
And it’s true, now’s an hour, the saints must go to war
We’ll preach it, we’ll sing it, we’ll shout it, we’ll cry it
‘Cause desperate times need desperate action
And that means we need a R.I.O.T.

Satan is a madman, a relentless entity
He’s the source of every plague known to the human family
We understand the mortal conflict in which we are engaged
And the gates of Hell come crashing down
When the saints of God begin to praise

Jesus, we’re callin’ on Your name
Jesus, we’re gonna see a change
Jesus, we’re taking on Goliath
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.”

Jesus, we’re callin’ on Your name
Oh, Jesus, we need to see a change
Jesus, we’re taking on Goliath
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

Jesus, Jesus
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

Jesus, Jesus
With a Righteous Invasion Of Truth
We want a R.I.O.T.

In America, Again

‘America Again’ Lyrics
Written by: Carmelo ‘Carman’ Domenic Licciardello & Michael Omartian

“George Washington, Thomas Jefferson
Samuel Adams, First Chief Justice John Jay
Names synonymous with the spirit of our country
Founding fathers of the U.S.A.

Over 200 years ago they shook off the chains of tyranny from Great Britain by divine call
Citing 27 Biblical violations they wrote the Declaration of Independence
With liberty and justice for all

But something happened since Jefferson called the Bible the cornerstone
For American liberty then put it in our schools as a light
Or since “Give me liberty or give me death”, Patrick Henry said
Our country was founded on the Gospel of Jesus Christ

We eliminated God from the equation of American life
Thus eliminating the reason this nation first began
From beyond the grave I hear the voices of our founding fathers plead
You need God in America again

Of the 55 men who formed the Constitution
Fifty-two were active members of their church
Founding fathers like Noah Webster who wrote the first dictionary
Could literally quote the Bible chapter and verse

James Madison said, “We’ve staked our future on our ability to follow
The Ten Commandments with all our heart”
These men believed you couldn’t even call yourself an American
If you subvert the Word of God

In his farewell address, Washington said, “You can’t have
National morality apart from religious principle,” and it’s true
‘Cause right now we have nearly 150,000 kids carrying guns
To these war zones we call public schools

In the ’40’s and ’50’s student problems were chewing gum and talking
In the ’90’s, rape and murder are the trend
The only way this nation can even hope to last this decade
Is to put God in America again

The only hope for America is Jesus
The only hope for America is Him
If we repent of our ways stand firm and say,
“We need God in America again.”

Abe Lincoln said, “The philosophy of the schoolroom in one generation
Will be the philosophy of the government of the next”
So when you eliminate the Word of God from the classroom and politics
You eliminate the nation that Word protects
America is now number one in teen pregnancy and violent crime
Number one in illiteracy, drug use and divorce
Every day a new holocaust of 5,000 unborn die
While pornography flood our streets like open sewers

America’s dead and dying hand is on the threshold of the Church
While the spirit of Sodom and Gomorrah vex us all
When it gets to the point where people would rather come out of the closet than clean it
It’s the sign that the judgement of God is gonna fall

If there’s ever been a time to rise up Church, it’s now
And as the blood bought saints of the living God proclaim
That it’s time to send the alarm from the Church house to The White House
And say, “We want God in America again”

I believe it’s time America to stand up and proclaim
That one nation under God is our demand
And send this evil lifestyle back to Satan where it came from
And let the Word of God revive our dying land

For Jesus Christ is coming back again in all His glory
And every eye shall see Him on that day
That’s why a new anointing of God’s power’s coming on us
To boldly tell the world you must be saved

Because astrology won’t save you, your horoscope won’t save you
The Bible says these things are all farce
If you’re born again you don’t need to look to the stars for your answers
‘Cause you can look to the very One who made those stars

History tells us time and time again
To live like there’s no God makes you a fool
If you want to see kids live right
Stop handing out condoms and start handing out the Word of God in schools

The only hope for America is Jesus
The only hope for America is Him
If we repent of our ways stand firm and say,
“We need God in America again.”

(repeat)

We need God in America
God in America
God in America again”
